April 11-13, 2000.  La Junta de los Ríos: Culture and Politics on the Texas-Mexico Border.

Professors Joanna Bartow, Mark Monroe, and Patrick Duffey planned a series of events focusing on the area of the Texas-Mexico border near Presisio, Texas.  There was a well-attended sculpture exhibition of Border art, and a screening of Alan Governor's film The Devil's Swing, a carry-your-tray luncheon with the filmmaker and four scholars and artists from related fields, as well as a round table discussion with these same guests: Alan Governor, Enrique Madrid (Archeological Steward for the Texas Historical Commission), Leticia Garza Falcón (Director of the Center for Gender and Multicultural Studies at Southwest Texas State University), and Curtis Tunnell (Executive Director of the Texas Historical Commission).
